My goal is to encourage others in their journey to be confident in who they are and what they offer this world. One big way to gain confidence is to feel good about the way you look. I put make-up on most days because I just feel prettier with it on. Working out does the same for me. When I am in shape, I feel more confident and attractive. I workout regularly to relieve stress, stay fit, and be as healthy as possible. I enjoy working out most of the time, but motivation can be difficult at times.
So I wanted to share a few tips that I have learned over my years of working out that help me to stay motivated and be consistent in doing my workouts.
- Workout the same time each day. I prefer morning time because if I don’t get it done then, I usually don’t get it done at all. Some might prefer working out on their lunch break or after work. Figure out what works best with your schedule and then commit to working out during that time at least 3-4 times per week.
- Keep your workouts short. I find workout programs that are no more than 30 minutes. I can commit much more easily to a half hour a day than an hour or more.
- Find a program that you love. I have had a subscription to Bodi (formally Beach Body) for several years now. The subscription is not too expensive and there are so many different programs available. I also like that their programs are planned out to make sure all muscle groups are worked out with adequate rest times in between. That takes away the stress of me having to figure that out myself. The less stress, the better.
- Keep a calendar or fitness log of your workouts. I printout the workout program I am doing and check off each workout I complete. I also keep a calendar/log where I write down what workout I completed on a certain day. This is similar to a “to do” list (I like to-do lists), and it helps me to feel accomplished when I look back at my workout progress. You can also jot down the weights you use for each workout to track your gains. If you have a weight loss goal, you can write down your weight and measurements at the beginning of the program in the middle and at the end to track your progress.
- Invest in a few workout outfits that you like wearing. When I workout, if I feel good in what I am wearing, it makes working out more enjoyable. That sounds silly, but it is true for me.
- Remind yourself of the “why.” Why do you want to work out? Is it to be healthier? To lose weight? To be able to keep up with your kids? Knowing your “why” is a huge motivator in staying consistent with your workouts.
If you are interested in keeping a fitness log, a great one for women can be found below with Option 1. A good one for anyone can be found with Option 2 below. Option 2 also has a diet tracker so you can write down what you eat during the day along with your workouts. Tracking what you eat goes hand in hand with working out no matter what your “why” is.
